Deion Sanders forced himself to suffer in silence so as not to distract his children, Shedeur and Shilo, from the mission ahead

Like any devoted father, Deion Sanders would do anything to shield his children. The recent revelations about Coach Prime’s health stunned the media and fans alike-only his closest inner circle knew he was battling cancer. Not even his sons, Shedeur and Shilo, were fully aware of the truth.

At last week’s press conference at the University of Colorado, the mystery Sanders had kept private finally came to light: the Hall of Famer had undergone surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his bladder.

His statements sparked concern over his recent health struggles, but also relief as he confirmed he is fully recovered and eager to return to action. What few expected, however, was how fiercely he tried to protect Shedeur and Shilo from the emotional toll of his diagnosis.

Shilo and Shedeur kept in the dark

In a recent interview with Deion Jr.’s Well of Media, Coach Prime revealed that his two youngest sons were unaware of his diagnosis.

“Shilo and Shedeur still don’t know what’s going on,” the Colorado Buffaloes coach shared.

He explained their minds were elsewhere for good reason. “They’re on assignment right now. They’re focused, they’re locked in, they need to focus on what they got in front of them, not focus on me,” Sanders said, referring to the NFL training camps the brothers are currently attending.

“God got me-I’m gonna be there,” Coach Prime emphasized. “I’m going to be alright. They have an assignment right before their eyes that they can’t afford to take their eyes off. And that’s what I want.”

The Sanders brothers’ NFL grind

After Shilo and Shedeur’s unexpected slide in the last draft, both have had to climb the depth charts of their respective teams. After signing as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Shilo even risks being left off the final 53-man roster, and Shedeur doesn’t have it easy either.

Coach Prime’s youngest son is battling for the Cleveland Browns quarterback spot with three other top quarterbacks. While some insiders claim Shedeur remains the fourth in line, others report that he has managed to impress head coach Kevin Stefanski.

Regardless of their ranking, the Sanders brothers won’t back down. If they mirror their father’s resilience, victory might be closer than it appears.
