In a recent revelation, NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders opened up about his conversation with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones regarding the head coaching position. Speaking on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Sanders shared that he seriously contemplated the possibility of coaching the iconic franchise, but ultimately decided to remain committed to his current role as head coach at the University of Colorado.

Sanders, who has been making waves in college football with his dynamic coaching style, recounted his discussion with Jones. “Jerry is one of those type of guys that, he’s like myself, that you’ve gotta have an opinion, you’ve gotta make a statement, you gotta respond, because he provokes so much thought,” Sanders said.

Despite the intriguing prospect of leading the Cowboys, Sanders chose to stay with the Buffaloes, citing his love for college football and the opportunity to coach his sons, Shedeur and Shilo. “I’m built for the college football game at this point in my life, and I’m not doing nothing at that next level without my sons,” Sanders explained.

The option is still there

Although the idea of coaching the Cowboys was enticing, Sanders admitted that it would have taken something “highly significant” to lure him away from Colorado. He emphasized that the negotiations never reached an advanced stage. “It never got to that point,” Sanders said. “It’s just a thought process.”

Sanders’ decision to remain in college football highlights his dedication to developing young talent and making an impact on the collegiate level. His success at Colorado and his commitment to his family have endeared him to fans and players alike.

As the football world continues to evolve, Sanders’ presence in college football remains a testament to his passion and dedication to the game. His conversation with Jerry Jones serves as a reminder of the opportunities and decisions that shape the careers of influential coaches.
