As the countdown to the 2025 NFL Draft continues, the speculation around where Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders will land in the first round is intensifying. The Buffs‘ star QB, who’s already made waves with his on-field performance and off-field confidence, recently hinted at a shortlist of preferred destinations during an episode of his podcast 2 Legendary.
The top three teams are Las Vegas Raiders, New York Giants, and Cleveland Browns. But now, a fourth contender has entered the mix: the New Orleans Saints.
And this time, it was his father – NFL legend and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders – who stirred the pot.
Deion Sanders hints at New Orleans while praising his son’s intelligence
In typical Coach Prime fashion, Deion didn’t name-drop too boldly but made his feelings clear when asked about the Saints as a possible destination for his son.
“I like their colors, I like the city, I like the food, I like the people, I like the possibility,” Deion said, delivering his trademark blend of charm and strategy. But beyond the aesthetics and culture of the Crescent City, he dove deeper into what sets Shedeur apart.
“Shedeur is very smart. You can’t lead the nation in completion percentage if you’re not smart. You can’t lead quarterbacks in the history of the game in completion percentage if you’re not a really smart quarterback.”
He also emphasized Shedeur‘s ball-carrying ability and mental toughness, hinting at qualities that NFL franchises covet in a modern quarterback.
These comments have added fuel to the idea that the Saints, who currently hold the No. 9 overall pick, may be eyeing Sanders as their quarterback of the future.
With questions still lingering around Derek Carr and the team looking for a long-term leader under center, Shedeur could be the perfect fit in a system that’s been searching for its next Drew Brees since 2020.
