Deion Sanders brims with bravado explaining why Travis Hunter “skipped” Colorado Pro Day

It was a full circle moment for Deion Sanders on Friday. “Coach Prime” got to watch his son, Shedeur Sanders, and the most talented player he’s ever coached, Travis Hunter, move one step closer to their dream of being drafted to the NFL. But as has become customary with all three, scrutiny was lurking around the corner on Colorado’s Pro Day.

Shedeur did his part at the Pro Day, throwing dots all over the field and showcasing the traits that make him a top quarterback prospect. Hunter took a different approach, opting to not do much at the Pro Day, skipping most major drills and just running routes and catching passes for Sanders. Hunter’s decision didn’t sit well with everyone, but Coach Prime came out to defend him.

Deion Sanders says Travis Hunter has nothing left to prove

Using his trademark cocky yet assertive tone, Deion defended Hunter by simply posing the question: What do you need to see?

Why would he do more? Some guys that need it, some guys that have it and the only thing they can do is hurt it. He’s got three years of superb film to his credit. You ain’t seen it? What do you need to see?

We usually see high-caliber players like Hunter skip the NFL Combine and then do some things at their Pro Day. Hunter barely did anything, but in his defense, Coach Prime is completely right.

Hunter is a Heisman Trophy winner, a generational talent by most accounts, and presents a unique prospect profile that hasn’t been seen before. Given that he’s fully expected to go within the Top 5 picks in the draft, he has a lot to lose and almost nothing to gain by doing anything else during the draft process.

Shedeur Sanders has Deion’s genes without a doubt

Shedeur, on the other hand, does have a few things left to prove. He quieted some doubters with an impressive throwing display at the Pro Day. He then delivered a trademark confident answer while talking to ESPN.

Sanders has been unapologetically himself throughout the whole draft process. That has rubbed some teams the wrong way, while other franchises love it and believe a leader needs to have that type of confidence.
