The 2025 NFL Draft is shaping up to be a wild ride, and Deion Sanders is keeping a close eye on the New Orleans Saints‘ quarterback drama. On April 11, news broke that Saints starter Derek Carr is grappling with a shoulder injury that might sideline him for the 2025 season, potentially requiring surgery.
Coach Prime, Colorado’s head man and Shedeur Sanders‘ dad, didn’t miss a beat, dropping a cryptic eyes emoji on X in response to ESPN’s Louis Riddick saying, “That 9th pick gonna be all kinds of interesting.” The hint? Shedeur could be the answer to New Orleans’ sudden QB crisis.
Shedeur, the Buffaloes’ star quarterback, lit up 2024 with 4,134 passing yards, 37 touchdowns, and a 74% completion rate, turning Colorado into a nine-win team. “He’s a leader who changes programs,” Deion said at a March 26 presser, gushing about his son’s knack for elevating teams like Jackson State before Boulder.
With Carr’s status shaky-he missed seven games in 2024 with hand and oblique issues-the Saints’ No. 9 pick is now a prime spot for a quarterback. Deion’s social media nod suggests he’s picturing Shedeur in black and gold.
Carr’s injury shakes NFL Draft
The Saints, under new head coach Kellen Moore, were already sniffing around for a long-term QB. Carr, 34, was never the forever fix, and backups Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener fizzled in 2024-Rattler threw six picks to four scores in six starts. “Shedeur’s got the arm and the poise Moore loves,” an X post speculated, tying him to Moore’s work with mobile studs like Dak Prescott and Justin Herbert. Deion’s been vocal about liking New Orleans, saying on April 4, “I like their colors, their city, their food, the people.” He’s clearly warming to the idea.
Shedeur’s draft stock has wobbled-once a top-three lock, he’s now projected anywhere from No. 5 to No. 21, with knocks on his mechanics and Deion’s loud presence. Yet, his 50 career starts and 14,477 total yards scream pro-ready. The Giants, Browns, and Steelers are also in the mix, but Carr’s injury flips the script for the Saints. “If it’s New Orleans, I’m happy,” Deion said last month, noting Shedeur’s heart is set on a few teams. Alvin Kamara’s recent visit to Colorado’s practice didn’t hurt the vibes either.
With the draft two weeks away, Deion’s got his eyes locked on New Orleans’ next move. Shedeur’s visits-like a “10/10” Steelers meeting-show he’s in demand, but Dad’s hinting the Saints’ need might just be his son’s big break.
