Jimmy Horn Jr. is living the dream of fighting for a spot on an NFL roster, and he’s been impressive ever since he got drafted with the 208th overall pick of the 2025 Draft.
The small wide receiver – he stands at 5’8, 174 pounds – could be one of the fastest rookies of the 2025 class, and he compensates his frame with incredible foot work and amazing catching abilities.
The former Colorado Buffaloes standout got the opportunity of his life when he played under Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders, playing alongside Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and superstar quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Horn Jr. knows how to shine in a team that had two major stars.
Jimmy Horn. Jr shines at practice
At the latest Carolina Panthers training camp practice, rookie wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr., a protégé of Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders, delivered one of the flashiest moments of the preseason, making cornerback Chau Smith-Wade fall during a 1-on-1 drill.
Horn Jr. is battling for a spot on the 53-man roster. He played 11 games for the Colorado Buffaloes last season, catching 37 passes for 441 yards and one touchdown from quarterback Shedeur Sanders. In two seasons in Boulder, he had 95 receptions for 1,108 yards and 7 touchdowns.
With wide receivers Tetairoa McMillan, Adam Thielen, and Xavier Legette seen as roster locks, Horn‘s standout plays and consistent practice performances are turning the wide receiver competition into one of the most exciting position battles in Panthers camp.
Carolina will play more starters for week 2 of preseason
After falling to the Cleveland Browns 30-10 during week 1 of the NFL preseason, the Carolina Panters will play more starters for the week 2 game against the Houston Texans. At least that’s the plan for Carolina‘s head coach, Dave Canales.
The starting offense and defense each got two series on Friday night. The Panthers head to Houston next week for a joint practice and the second preseason game Saturday night. And for now, the coach is prepared to play the first team for two, maybe even three series against the Texans.
Canales went on to add he’s very pleased with the conditioning of the group, so the extra play time has nothing to do with shaking off rust. It’s more so just the mental aspect of a game flow, which is something that the Panthers need for sure.
