D’Angelo Ortiz, son of former Dominican player and Hall of Famer David Ortiz, has taken an important step in his professional career after being promoted within the Boston Red Sox minor league system.

The 21-year-old, who was selected in the 19th round of the 2024 Draft, has been promoted from the Florida Complex League to the Low-A Salem team, an achievement that has excited the entire Ortiz family.

His father, visibly moved, expressed his joy on social media by posting: “Proud dad”, accompanied by photos of D’Angelo, one from his childhood and another recent one on the pitch.

Despite being selected in a late round of the draft, D’Angelo Ortiz has managed to capture the attention of the coaching staff thanks to his performance.

In 51 games, he compiled an outstanding offensive line of .273/.384/.689, with a combination of power and discipline at the plate that reflects both his preparation and natural instinct for baseball.

David Ortiz recently shared that he has not had to push his son to strive, highlighting his son’s determination and discipline:

“I thought I was going to have to push him, but I didn’t. He is the one who wants this. He lives for baseball. He’s a good kid, and I feel very excited and proud.”

D’Angelo has shown versatility in the field, playing both first and third base, which adds value to his profile as a prospect.

The excitement for D’Angelo‘s progress was not limited to his father. His sister, Alexandra Ortiz, also expressed her pride through an emotional message on social media:

“DOL was promoted. His timing is always right. It takes a lot to get here. Nothing is taken for granted. I am grateful for his mentality on and off the field.”Alexandra Ortiz

The promotion to Low-A Salem represents a new level of demand for D’Angelo Ortiz, who will now face more experienced pitchers and more complex game situations. But the Red Sox organization trusts his potential, only time will tell if he will become what his legacy and potential seems to indicate, an important figure in baseball.
