David Beckham is to be awarded a knighthood as part of King Charles’ birthday celebrations, according to BBC Sport. However, this is being treated with caution, as a government spokesman said: “We do not comment on speculation about honours”. In addition, Beckham’s representatives declined to comment.

Beckham has always been a highly respected figure by the British royal family. In 2023, he was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). However, in 2011, he was first considered for a knighthood but did not receive it

It is now that he is in a position to receive more recognition for his football career and his contributions to British society, and the list of recipients will be published next week in which the former footballer will be.

Beckham’s merits

Beckham has always been a figure who has exalted all things British, for example, his presence was one of the keys to securing the London 2012 Olympic Games and he has been a Unicef ambassador since 2005.

In addition, he was an ambassador for The King’s Foundation in 2024, supporting King Charles’ educational programme and his efforts to ensure that young people have a greater understanding of nature.

He also helped create the Inter Miami CF Foundation, a community-driven nonprofit that seeks to empower underserved communities, using soccer as a catalyst.
