Lionel Messi’s future in MLS is no longer in doubt. The Argentine star has signed a contract extension with Inter Miami that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2028 season, thus confirming his commitment to the project led by David Beckham

The Argentine captain’s previous deal was set to expire at the end of 2026, but the new extension ensures that he will continue to wear Inter Miami pink for at least three more years. The news has been welcomed by both fans and the club’s management, especially by Beckham, who was instrumental in bringing Messi to MLS in 2023

David Beckham’s comments on Lionel Messi

Inter Miami’s co-owner reacted on social media shortly after Messi’s renewal was made official, sharing an emotional message in which he recalled the beginnings of the club’s project and the Argentine’s importance in its development.

“When we started this journey, our vision was to bring the best players to Miami. In 2023 we brought the best player to ever play this sport to our city. Today I am so happy that he is as committed as ever and still wants to wear the pink of Miami and play for our team,” Beckham said on Instagram.

“As an owner, having a player who loves football as much as he does, and who has done so much for the sport in this country and inspired the next generation of young talent, makes me feel very fortunate. Thank you, Leo. Here’s to the future,” he added.

Messi, the emblem of a global project

Since his arrival in Miami, Lionel Messi has completely transformed the soccer landscape in the United States. His presence not only raised the competitive level of MLS, but also boosted international interest in the club and the league.

With his renewal until 2028, Inter Miami reaffirms its ambitious sporting and commercial project, consolidating the Argentine as the central axis of its long-term strategy.

The relationship between Beckham and Messi remains one of the most symbolic in modern soccer: a legend who dreamed of bringing the best player in the world to his team, and another who found in Miami the perfect place to write the final chapters of his career.
