Dave Portnoy seems intent on getting Caitlin Clark off the Indiana Fever to a different WNBA team

The 2025 WNBA season has gotten off to a thrilling start. It all got kickstarted by Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese during the first weekend of the season. The college rivals delivered a heated moment, which sent shockwaves throughout the league, precisely what the WNBA wanted.

But during that game, a more concerning situation emerged. The WNBA launched an investigation into claims that Indiana Fever fans made hateful comments towards Reese and the Chicago Sky. Ultimately, the league found no wrongdoing. The whole situation particularly riled up Barstool Sports president Dave Portnoy, who is an outspoken Clark fan.

Dave Portnoy hates how Indiana Fever handled WNBA-Chicago Sky investigation

The Fever ended up making a statement following the conclusion of the investigation, thanking the WNBA for their “swift and thorough process”. It was a very politically correct statement, and Portnoy didn’t agree with it.

“It’s OK to have a spine Indiana Fever. The ‘investigation’ was bulls—. Both you and WNBA gave (credibility) to a very obvious troll. ESPN ran with it. Caitlin Clark had to defend her fans for no reason. You made something outta nothing. Indiana Fever fans deserve better.“

Portnoy clearly isn’t thrilled with how the Fever are running things. He was at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for that game, sporting a Clark jersey. GIven Portnoy’s sway in the media and sports world, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him champion for Clark to make a move to another team.

He has already come out and made bold claims about Clark being able to put the WNBA out of business if she left and decided to start her own league.
