Davante Adams could leave the Rams to reunite with Aaron Rodgers

The NFL offseason is heating up, and at the center of one of the most intriguing storylines is Davante Adams. The star wideout signed a two-year, $44 million contract with the Los Angeles Rams last offseason amid high expectations, but rumors of a potential trade have only grown louder as the calendar moves into April.

When Adams arrived in Los Angeles, the plan was clear: pair him with rising star Puka Nacua to form one of the NFL’s most dynamic receiving tandems. In 2025, Adams recorded 60 receptions for 789 yards and 14 touchdowns, leading the league in scoring catches once again.

While his touchdown total was impressive, the yardage marked a career low for a full season, prompting some to question his long-term fit in the Rams’ offensive system. Despite that, his presence offered both scoring consistency and veteran leadership, valuable traits in a team chasing Super Bowl contention.

Adams‘ contract and age, he is 33, factor heavily into trade considerations. Los Angeles reportedly explored moving him earlier in the offseason while eyeing younger options, including A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Head coach Sean McVay acknowledged these discussions, highlighting the team’s willingness to explore roster flexibility, even as Adams remains under contract for 2026.

The Rams’ potential pivot toward youth reflects a broader league trend, where teams weigh veteran talent against long-term salary cap and roster planning.

A surprising AFC fit?

Among the most unexpected potential landing spots for Adams is the Pittsburgh Steelers. NFL insiders suggest that adding him to Pittsburgh could create one of the most formidable receiving corps in the AFC. The Steelers recently acquired Michael Pittman Jr. from the Indianapolis Colts, joining D.K. Metcalf to form a strong foundation.

Bringing Adams into that mix would provide a trio with elite talent and complementary skill sets, potentially transforming Pittsburgh’s passing game.

The connection between Adams and Aaron Rodgers adds another layer to this speculation. The two played together in Green Bay and share a close friendship, which could make a reunion particularly appealing if Rodgers decides to return to the field.

Such a scenario would pair Adams‘ route-running mastery and touchdown prowess with Rodgers‘ precise quarterbacking, instantly elevating Pittsburgh’s offensive ceiling. While some might see this combination as a gamble given age considerations, the upside is undeniable, especially in high-stakes playoff scenarios.

Although the Rams continue to insist that Adams is part of their immediate plans, the NFL’s trade landscape is notoriously fluid. Should Los Angeles decide to prioritize youth or restructure its roster, Adams‘ proven scoring ability and veteran leadership will make him an attractive target for teams across the league.

In the coming weeks, the football world will be watching closely to see whether one of the NFL’s premier receivers changes conferences, potentially reshaping the playoff picture.
