Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams publicly called out the NFL to take a more closely police the Philadelphia Eagles’ contentious “Tush Push” play, requesting at least that the league regularizes it so that it can be equitable in short-yardage scenarios.

The controversy started in the las game were Eagles played against the Chiefs during the Week 2 fixtures. The Philadelphia side was accused unfairness by some of the NFL fans and analysts.

The “Tush Push” is a play for short yardage in which the quarterback is being pushed forward by teammates in an attempt to pick up extra yardage. Although the play technically is within the rules under NFL regulations, its application has been under scrutiny for possibly gaining an unfair advantage.

Adams speaks out

During an Up & Adam’s Show appearance, Adams talked about his issues with the way the play is utilized:

I just ask at this point if they’re going to allow it to be run, then at least police and make sure guys aren’t getting off the ball because they’re so efficient with it

He also put an emphasis on timing and coordination, implying that without regulation, the play would disrupt competitive balance.

League response and context

The Green Bay Packers previously this year offered the ban of the “Tush Push” in the NFL league meeting. The motion lacked two votes and remains lawful for 2025.

During Week 2, the Eagles employed the move numerous times against the Kansas City Chiefs. There were some false start penalties observed when it was implemented, according to the analysts. The Eagles coach Nick Sirianni made it known that they were going to rectify this in the future.

Wider reactions

Others, including active and retired players, have joined Adams in questioning it. Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Kurt Benkert used his ‘X’ account to criticize the play, calling it “still [is] not real football” despite its success among fans. Many commentators and players are currently debating whether or not the play is overly regulated.

The “Tush Push” remains lawful for now, but Adams’ comments ring with continued controversy regarding equality and rule application in the NFL. Throughout the remainder of the season, everyone’s attention will remain on the Eagles’ implementation of the play and how the league will act with additional regulation to maintain competitive integrity.
