Daniel Jones on his way to the Cleveland Browns; a major blow for Shedeur Sanders

There is no doubt that one of the main protagonists of the current NFL season was Daniel Jones, who signed as a backup quarterback with the Indianapolis Colts and earned the starting job over Anthony Richardson during the preseason. At the time, the decision was heavily criticized, but Jones ultimately won over the fans.

Jones responded immediately and led the Colts to become the best team in the NFL during the first half of the season, posting a 7-1 record. However, in the second half of the year, while Indianapolis was battling for the AFC South lead, he suffered a torn Achilles tendon in Week 14 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, bringing his season to an abrupt end.

Following Jones’ injury, the Colts brought Philip Rivers out of retirement in an attempt to salvage the season, but they were unable to win another game. After being the top team in the NFL, they ended up missing the playoffs. Without question, Jones’ injury drastically changed what looked like a promising season for Indianapolis.

Cleveland Browns advised to sign Daniel Jones

Despite the Indianapolis Colts’ front office, led by Chris Ballard, wanting to bring Daniel Jones back despite his injury, his impressive season has drawn interest from several teams in free agency, including the Cleveland Browns.

Analysts Daryl Ruiter and Jeff Phelps from 92.3 The Fan Cleveland discussed the Browns’ quarterback options and ranked Daniel Jones ahead of Shedeur Sanders, stating: “Forget Deshaun. Forget Shedeur. Forget Dillon. Go after the top guys in free agency and make Daniel Jones or Malik Willis your starting QB. I don’t think it’s as likely.”

Even with Cleveland’s interest, signing Jones would be difficult, as the Colts are determined to bring him back next season. Still, anything can happen. Jones himself said at the end of the season that this is a business, leaving the door open for other teams.

At the moment, the Cleveland Browns have three quarterbacks under contract: Deshaun Watson, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders. Everything remains uncertain until a new head coach is hired and decides which quarterbacks he will work with heading into next season.
