Daniel Jones is about to impact Shedeur Sanders’ career, and the Browns’ quarterback is upset

There’s no doubt that Daniel Jones was one of the biggest surprises of the 2025 NFL season. While everyone expected him to simply serve as Anthony Richardson’s backup, Jones won the starting job in the preseason and was the starter from Week 1. His level of play was simply spectacular, and with him, the Colts started the season 7-1 in the first half.

In the second half of the season, everything collapsed. Jones suffered a fibula fracture but continued playing until Week 14, when he experienced a dramatic Achilles tendon rupture. The Duke University product was sidelined for the rest of the season, and the Colts missed the playoffs, a painful moment for the team.

Even so, and despite his one-year contract expiring in March, Jones and the franchise have shown mutual interest in continuing together for 2026, and talks for a potential contract extension with Indianapolis have begun. Everything points to the Colts re-signing Jones, who showed great talent when healthy.

Anthony Richardson could leave, and the Browns are potential destinations

With the Colts’ future resting on Daniel Jones and Riley Leonard as the backup, it’s clear that Anthony Richardson, despite flashes of talent, may have to leave the franchise to find an opportunity to thrive in the NFL. One potential destination could be the Cleveland Browns.

According to Bleacher Report, Richardson could be a great fit for the Browns and Todd Monken’s system: “Acquiring Richardson would create serious competition for Shedeur Sanders in training camp, and the dynamic dual-threat quarterback might even fit better in the new head coach Todd Monken’s system.”

The Colts selected Richardson 4th overall in the 2023 draft, and while his talent is undeniable, he has struggled to stay healthy. Considering Jones’ performance in 2025, the Colts appear ready to move on from the Florida product. However, with his talent, Richardson could still have a second chance elsewhere.

It’s worth noting that Todd Monken previously worked with Lamar Jackson, helping him win his second MVP as the Ravens’ offensive coordinator. Now with the Browns, Richardson could be a strong option. He shares some traits with Jackson and would provide fierce competition for Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson.
