Damar Hamlin’s surprising decision that will serve as a reminder of the great adversity he overcame three years ago

Nearly three years after suffering a cardiac arrest on the field, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has made a striking and permanent decision to honor the moment that changed his life back in January 2023.

Nearly three years after suffering a cardiac arrest on the field, Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has made a striking and permanent decision to recall the heart attack that almost ended his NFL career.

The artwork, created by renowned tattoo artist Ganga, is filled with symbolic references to the events of that fateful night, when Hamlin collapsed during a “Monday Night Football” matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Among the most notable elements is the phrase “Did We Win?” inked on his neck, in what serves as a direct nod to the first question he asked doctors upon regaining consciousness.

Whilst one shoulder bears Bo Jackson‘s tweet responding to that inquiry, while other details include the Monday Night Football logo and a depiction of Paycor Stadium, the site of the incident.

“Thanks for your trust,” Ganga wrote in his Instagram post showcasing the piece that comes 30 months after the incident, and follows Hamlin‘s own return to the NFL field.

The 27-year-old posted a remarkable recovery, by 2024, he had returned to full health, started 14 games for Buffalo, and re-signed with the team this offseason ahead of the 2025/26 NFL campaign.

His comeback was punctuated by a career-first: an interception against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday Night Football in September 2024 as the play occurred in the second quarter when Trevor Lawrence overthrew his target, sending the ball into Hamlin‘s chest.

The crowd at Highmark Stadium erupted as Damar returned the ball roughly 20 yards and reflecting afterward, he acknowledged the gravity of the moment.

“We all know my last start on ‘Monday Night Football,'” Hamlin said in September 2024. “And how that game went.

“So to be able to come all the way back from that, and to have a special moment like that, it’s all God right there.”

Bills score big win ahead of 2025/26 NFL season

In other news, the Buffalo Bills running back, James Cook, solidified his future with the team by signing a four-year contract extension through the 2029 season at the Highmark Stadium.

The fourth-year star has emerged as one of Buffalo’s most versatile offensive weapons, excelling both as a rusher and in the passing game as in 2024, Cook carried the ball 207 times for 1009 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns.

It was a campaign that tied the league lead and set a Bills single-season record alongside O.J. Simpson from 1975. He also added 32 receptions for 258 yards and two receiving touchdowns, demonstrating his dual-threat capability.

Cook’s performance extended into the postseason, where he rushed for 272 yards and three touchdowns across three games, helping lead the team in critical moments.

“It’s a great organization,” Cook said. “They drafted me for a reason, and I’m willing to be here and spend my career here.”
