Dallas is preparing a low blow against Kansas City: It is eyeing the best OT available in the 2025 NFL Draft

Josh Simmons is one of those players who could turn the tables with a single stroke. The former Ohio State left tackle is one of the best prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft and the leading candidate to be the Kansas City Chiefs’ first overall pick… if Jerry Jones allows it.

Last season was hell for the Chiefs’ offensive line. The troubled unit was one of the worst in the league at protecting its quarterback, allowing opponents to sack Patrick Mahomes 47 times, including six in Super Bowl LIX, which they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles.

With this in mind, several analysts have predicted that the Chiefs will select Simmons with the 31st overall pick in the 2025 draft. The former Buckeyes star is the best prospect at his position this year, and Kansas City needs a player of that caliber to guard Mahomes’ back. However, the Dallas Cowboys could beat them to the punch.

The Cowboys have their eyes set on Simmons

With speculation and predictions heading into the 2025 draft in full swing, some insiders have revealed that the Cowboys could have their eye on Simmons. Sports Illustrated’s Brandon Loree stated, “LB Carson Schweisinger and OT Josh Simmons are two names that could be on the short list of players the Cowboys could take in the first two rounds.”

Nick Harris of The Star-Telegram noted that Schweisinger could be the Cowboys’ first choice after Cowboys linebackers coach Dave Borganzi worked with him at his Pro Day. However, “another one that I think the Cowboys like as much as you guys down the line is Josh Simmons.”

Similarly, Shubhi Rathore of Essentially Sports predicted, “If Simmons is available when the Cowboys are on the clock, don’t be shocked if they block Kansas City’s path to Mahomes’ potential bodyguard.”

What can Kansas City do to secure Simmons?

With the 12th overall pick in hand, Dallas has a huge advantage over Kansas City if it wants to land Simmons. Loree and Harris agreed that the Cowboys could even afford to trade down and still keep the player.

However, rumors have also circulated about the Chiefs trading up with the Los Angeles Rams or even the Houston Texans to land Simmons. But if all else fails, the team can still look to its defensive line, which could use a top-tier pass rusher. Only time will tell.
