Dallas Cowboys offers an update on Perrion Winfrey’s injury. Will he be ready for kickoff?

The storm that is hitting the Dallas Cowboys is still raging. Micah Parsons’ departure is still hurting the fans, there are doubts about the level of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb for the start of the season and now there is a possible injury to Perrion Winfrey, one of their best defensive tackles. On Thursday, September 4, the Texas team will visit Lincoln Field to face the NFL champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, in the kickoff of the 2025 season. And for this important game, nothing is defined in the Lone Star team.

Time is ticking for the Cowboys to get everything in order before their first game, but as we all know, there have been a lot of moving parts with this team. On Sunday, the team practiced and gave great news with the contract extension of cornerback DaRon Bland. However, not everything went according to plan where the storm clouds over Arlington returned once Perrion Winfrey was seen with ailments at the end of Sunday’s sessions.

What happened to Perrion Winfrey?

The Cowboys’ defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey was injured at the start of practice. This was witnessed by Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News, who reported that the player left practice with noticeable pain. The linebacker left the field under his own power, but with a serious look of pain under the assistance of his coaches. Once he was attended to by the medical services, there was good news that could keep head coach Brian Schottenheimer calm.

The team could have avoided a possible injury to Winfrey. Although the severity of the injury has yet to be determined, sources close to the matter revealed that Winfrey is suffering from back stiffness. It is not an injury that would normally cause significant casualties, unless it is Micah Parsons. Fortunately, the team now has a little more depth at the defensive tackle position after acquiring Kenny Clark in the big trade for Parsons.

Dallas Cowboys with a big load for the 2025 season

The Cowboys want to stop the malaria they are going through and that means having all their quality players available for Week 1. Facing Saquon Barkley will not be easy, but the message is clear from the front office: the Cowboys will stop the Eagles’ run. The preseason showed strong defensive problems, while the offense was a total unknown once their star quarterback, Dak Prescott, and receiver CeeDee Lamb did not take part in any of the three preseason games.

The fans, the players and Jerry Jones himself have been burdened with a 30-year drought without reaching the Super Bowl and therefore three decades of drought without reaching the Vince Lombardi trophy. The visit to Philadelphia will be the most complicated, but we will have to wait and see how the Dallas Cowboys perform throughout the season, as their odds at the bookmakers are that they will not even reach a place as a Wild Card
