The Dallas Cowboys are confronting a challenging offseason, grappling with the aftermath of significant injuries to key defensive players and navigating the complexities of roster adjustments.

Amidst these challenges, reports have surfaced regarding cornerback Trevon Diggs, prompting the Cowboys to address misinformation and clarify the situation.

In December 2024, Diggs underwent surgery to repair cartilage damage in his left knee, an injury that had been affecting him for much of the season. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones indicated that Diggs is expected to be out of action until after training camp in August 2025 .

However, recent reports have suggested that Diggs’ recovery timeline could extend into the 2025 season, raising concerns about his availability for the upcoming campaign.

“He’s more subject to injury. He’s learned that one time,” said Stephon Jones. “My point is, I have a lot of hope that his actual rehab and experience from the time before is really helping him out, and I think it has.”

Cowboys clear the air

In response to these reports, a source within the Cowboys organization has labeled the claims as “fake news,” asserting that Diggs’ recovery is progressing as expected and that he remains an integral part of the team’s defensive plans. This statement aims to quell speculation and reaffirm the organization’s confidence in Diggs’ return to form.

The Cowboys’ defensive lineup has been further impacted by the recovery statuses of other players. Cornerbacks Caelen Carson and rookie Shavon Revel Jr. are also rehabbing from injuries, prompting the team to consider bolstering their secondary through potential veteran acquisitions.

As the offseason progresses, the Cowboys are actively assessing their roster and making strategic decisions to ensure a competitive defense in the 2025 season. The situation surrounding Trevon Diggs underscores the challenges teams face in managing player health and media narratives during the offseason.

With Diggs’ status uncertain, the Cowboys are exploring alternative strategies to bolster their secondary.

Veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore, a former Super Bowl champion, has been observed at the Cowboys’ facility, indicating the team’s interest in adding experienced depth to their defensive lineup . Additionally, the team is evaluating other cornerback options to ensure a robust defensive backfield in Diggs’ potential absence.

While the Cowboys confront uncertainties regarding player recoveries and roster adjustments, they remain committed to fielding a formidable defense in the upcoming season.

The clarification regarding Trevon Diggs’ injury status serves as a reminder of the importance of accurate information and the team’s proactive approach to addressing challenges.
