Dak Prescott’s surprising high school GPA sparks online buzz before Cowboys camp

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is back in the headlines-but this time, it’s not for his record-breaking salary or his preseason prep. Instead, the internet has latched onto a surprising detail from his high school days: Prescott reportedly had a 1.4 GPA while attending Haughton High School in Louisiana.

The revelation, shared by X user ML Football and confirmed by MaxPreps, stirred up a wave of reactions on social media.

“The average GPA in the U.S. is between 3.0 and 3.5,” the post noted, igniting a mix of criticism, jokes, and admiration. Some fans responded with light-hearted mockery, saying things like, “I graduated with a higher GPA than my quarterback,” while others came to Prescott’s defense, suggesting that academic performance in high school doesn’t define a person’s potential.

“He doesn’t give 1.4 GPA vibes-maybe he was just going through something,” one user wrote.

While the number might be eye-catching, Prescott’s story is far more complex-and far more inspiring.

From academic struggles to a Master’s degree

Despite the low GPA in high school, Prescott’s college career painted a completely different picture. He attended Mississippi State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in educational psychology and followed it up with a master’s in workforce leadership.

During his time there, he was twice named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll and even received the 2015 Senior CLASS Award for excellence in classroom, community, character, and competition.

Prescott has often credited his education-especially his background in psychology-for shaping his leadership style in the NFL.

In interviews, he’s explained how understanding people’s emotions and motivations helps him manage a locker room and connect with teammates. Far from being academically limited, Prescott now aspires to pursue a Ph.D. in psychology, a goal he has mentioned publicly several times.

This educational turnaround reinforces the idea that early academic performance doesn’t necessarily dictate long-term success. Prescott’s story is a prime example of how resilience, maturity, and focus can completely shift the narrative.

As the Cowboys gear up for training camp, expectations are sky-high. The team added weapons like wide receiver George Pickens and revamped the run game with veterans Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams. Rookie guard Tyler Booker is expected to bolster Prescott’s protection. With all eyes on their quarterback, the spotlight is intense-but so is Prescott’s drive.

His journey from a 1.4 GPA to leading one of the NFL’s most valuable franchises is more than just a viral headline-it’s a story of growth, grit, and redefining what success looks like.
