Dak Prescott pressures Jerry Jones to secure his new favorite teammate on the Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys may be struggling to find consistency this season, but their offense continues to shine. Behind Dak Prescott‘s steady leadership and the emergence of wide receiver George Pickens, Dallas has managed to stay competitive despite a rocky start and CeeDee Lamb‘s absence with an ankle injury.

Pickens, who joined the Cowboys this offseason, has quickly established himself as a key weapon in Prescott‘s passing attack.

Through six games, he has already hauled in 32 receptions for 525 yards and six touchdowns, marking the best start of his professional career. His instant chemistry with Prescott has turned him into the centerpiece of an offense that has quietly ranked among the NFL’s most productive.

Still, with Pickens‘ contract set to expire at the end of the year, questions about his long-term future in Dallas are beginning to surface.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones addressed the issue this week, acknowledging the receiver’s impact while downplaying the immediacy of contract talks.

“I don’t want to sit here and… as you know, there’s even a competition to it,” Jones said. “He is doing more than we expected or could have expected, and what’s really special is he’s a real plus to have around the team. He’s a real plus around his teammates, he’s a great presence around those coaches, and those coaches really think highly of him.

“So he’s not only contributing on the field, he’s doing it as part of the team concept, which is very important and should be noted. But we’ll weigh [contract extension talks]. We knew full well that if things really went the way we wanted them to, then we certainly need to think about having some room available if we’re going to pay a second receiver at that level.”

Prescott makes his case for Pickens behind the scenes

While Jones remains cautious, Prescott is already making it known that he wants Pickens to stay in Dallas long term. The quarterback told reporters he plans to speak directly with Jones about the situation when the opportunity arises.

“I’ve been a little busy, but I will,” Prescott said. “When I run into him in that time of privacy, I’ll make sure.”

Prescott‘s support adds weight to Pickens‘ growing influence inside the Cowboys locker room. Beyond his numbers, Pickens has been praised for his energy and competitiveness, traits that have stood out even during Dallas’ uneven start.

His quick adaptation to the team’s system and his strong rapport with Prescott have helped stabilize the offense amid injuries and defensive struggles.
