It was supposed to be one of the easiest decisions an NFL franchise could make. You have a 26-year-old player in his prime, coming off of four straight Pro Bowl seasons to begin his career. The salary cap is only going up, which means contracts will be more expensive for the teams. Yet Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys front office didn’t get the memo.
They let Micah Parsons‘ contract drama linger, and now it’s imploding in their faces. Personal comments made by Jones were the final straw for Parsons, who officially requested a trade last week. In the midst of all of this, the Cowboys have to prepare for preseason, which starts this week. Dallas doesn’t know if it will have its defensive leader going forward, but their offensive leader, Dak Prescott, hates what’s going on with the team right now.
Dak Prescott’s message to Micah Parsons amidst Jerry Jones fallout
According to Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports, Parsons received an extremely short and concerned message from his quarterback on Friday. It read, “F**k, man“. Prescott cleared up his message further to Epstein.
He knows what that means. It wasn’t f**k you, Micah. Or f**k them. It’s more of a f**k, this is frustrating for everybody involved. Not many people, especially here, have been in that position.
While Prescott did make note that he isn’t necessarily on either side, his message to Parsons indicates his frustration with the front office for not being able to get this resolved. He went further, explaining that he knows what it’s like to go through a similar process, “so I know what that means just to support him“. Prescott is supporting his teammate over the team owner, because he’s been in this position before.
Prescott and CeeDee Lamb are the two who went through this last season. It took until the very last moment for Jones to pull the trigger on the contracts. This Parsons situation feels different, though. There appears to be personal animosity on both sides. Prescott certainy seems to feel the tension.
