Paige Spiranac has opened up about an unexpected chapter of her dating history, revealing that she experimented with women during her college years.
The golf influencer made the admission while playing comedian Andrew Santino in a one-on-one match for her YouTube series, “Paige Meets Her Match.” Their conversation moved beyond golf when Santino asked about her romantic preferences and past experiences.
The exchange began with a hypothetical, as Santino asked Spiranac whom she’d take back to a cabin at the Celebrity Invitational if everyone involved were single. Spiranac picked Canadian golfer Sarah Winter, saying she was the best-looking person there.
Santino then followed up with a more personal question, asking whether Spiranac had ever dated a woman.
“I dabbled in college … Hooked up,” Spiranac responded.
However, she made it clear that she hadn’t seriously dated women during that period.
When Santino asked whether she could see herself dating a woman, Spiranac didn’t rule out the possibility.
“I think so,” she said, before adding that she’s a huge fan of women. Her response suggested that she remains open-minded about where a relationship could lead.
Spiranac attended the University of Arizona before transferring to San Diego State, where she continued her collegiate golf career. She became one of the better-known players on the Aztecs team and helped San Diego State win a conference championship.
Her college career eventually led to professional opportunities before she built a much larger following through social media and golf-focused content.
Spiranac and Santino make golf entertaining
Although their conversation generated plenty of attention, the main attraction of the episode was still the golf match. Santino isn’t a complete newcomer to the sport, either.
The comedian reportedly plays to a three handicap, meaning Spiranac faced a legitimate challenge rather than simply taking on a casual celebrity golfer.
The pair brought plenty of personality to the front nine, with Santino using trash talk to keep the contest entertaining. At one point, after Spiranac hit a birdie, he jokingly called her a “bad person” before acknowledging that she’d played the hole well.
There was also a wager attached to their match. If Santino wins, Spiranac has agreed to pay for the most expensive meal he chooses at his restaurant. If Spiranac comes out on top, Santino will have her as a guest on his “Whiskey Ginger” podcast under FanDuel.
The first episode covered the front nine, leaving the result to be decided in the second installment. Part II is scheduled to debut on September 17.
The matchup is another example of how Spiranac’s expanded beyond traditional golf coverage. And after the unexpected dating revelation and competitive first nine, fans have another reason to tune in for the conclusion.
