Curry beats out LeBron, Edwards in ESPN Poll of top American NBA stars

Steph Curry has been voted the best current American player in the NBA, according to a recent ESPN poll of league executives as the Golden State Warriors star beat out LeBron James.

The 37-year-old is heading into his 17th season but still earns the adoration of fans watching him at the Chase Center, and some of the most senior members of the league too.

Curry’s influence and skill continue to set him apart from his peers, including LeBron James and other stars and he remains one of the league’s most formidable guards.

While injuries have made him a more cautious presence on the court compared with his MVP years, he consistently demonstrates the ability to change the course of games with his shooting, playmaking, and leadership.

In the ESPN survey, Curry received more votes than the Minnesota Timberwolves’ own guard, Anthony Edwards, highlighting the respect he commands across the league.

“With Jayson Tatum out of the mix, the honor instead was given to Curry, despite him being 37 years old and entering his 17th NBA season,” repoted Tim Bontemps.

Tatum, a perennial All-Star, is expected to miss the entire upcoming season due to a torn Achilles suffered during last year’s playoffs.

An Eastern Conference scout reinforced Curry’s reputation, stating, “He’s still the guy who scares me most.”

Steph Curry remains key to Golden State Warriors in 2025/26 NBA season

Despite not having the same statistical dominance he achieved in his prime, Steph remains one of the top five point guards in the league and possesses the ability to elevate his team in crucial moments.

That’s a good boost for the Warriors as they head into the 2025/26 NBA season, which is just under a month away, hoping to improve on last year’s second-round playoff exit.

Curry and Jimmy Butler are expected to lead the charge, but the team’s supporting cast remains a question mark as offseason moves were minimal, leaving weaknesses in depth that could hinder their championship aspirations.

Therefore, Steph’s averages of 24.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and six assists means he is one of the premier players in the league and remains a dangerous threat on the court.

He, Butler and Jonathan Kuminga will be key if Golden State looks to win a first NBA title since the 2022 campaign, when they beat the Boston Celtics in a 4-2 series for their fourth ring in eight seasons.

As it stands, the team relies heavily on Curry’s experience, skill, and leadership to compete with elite Western Conference teams like the Denver Nuggets or the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Despite the challenges, watching Curry perform remains a spectacle. His unparalleled shooting range, court vision, and leadership ability have earned him widespread acclaim from fans, executives, and scouts alike.

The ESPN poll serves as a testament to his enduring impact on the league and reinforces his status as the most feared American player in professional basketball today.
