Marc Cucurella, recent Club World Cup winner with Chelsea, gave an interview to Jijantes FC in which he explained his experience in the trophy presentation in which Donald Trump ‘gatecrashed’.

“We had been told that, as a rule, Donald Trump would come to present us with the trophy and that it could not be lifted until he left,” the Spanish defender explained to Gerard Romero about the initial plan, which ended up going awry when the former president of the United States did not get off the podium, despite the insistence of Gianni Infantino (president of FIFA), and stayed to celebrate with the Chelsea players the moment Reece James lifted the cup.

Cucurella stressed what everyone saw: “And of course, we were all there waiting for him to leave, but the guy didn’t want to leave and on top of that we looked at him and he said ‘get him up, I’m staying here and such'”.

“And let’s see who said something to him, you know… I was scared,” said the Spanish international.

Cucurella backs Nico Williams: “I don’t trust anyone”

At another point in the interview, Gerard Romero pointed out that Nico Williams “had prioritised money over footballing growth”, referring to the player’s decision to not sign for Barcelona and renew with Athletic. In response to this comment, Marc Cucurella defended his teammate: “I don’t think it was that… I think he was a bit scared that he wouldn’t be registered,” he explained.

Romero insisted and asked Cucurella to put himself in Nico Williams’ shoes: “Barca goes to Chelsea and says they pay 65 million for ‘Cucu’… Wouldn’t you come for fear?”, he asked. Without changing his stance, Cucurella replied: “I don’t know… And if then they can’t register you, what do you do?“

The ‘Jijantes’ journalist added: “But if they tell you don’t worry, we’re going to register you as we did with Olmo…? We suffered, but they are assuring you that they are going to do it”. Finally, Cucurella settled the issue with the following response: “I don’t trust anyone nowadays”.

Will we ever see Marc Cucurella in the Kings League?
