It has been confirmed that the Mexican national team will face Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo, as part of the final warm-up matches ahead of the 2026 World Cup
Through the official account of the Egyptian national team, the opponents, dates and times of the last warm-up matches have been announced, including opponents of enormous quality. Belgium and Portugal will be the teams that Javier Aguirre and his team will face in March 2026.
Mexico vs Portugal: Cristiano Ronaldo reopens the Estadio Azteca
The first match will be Mexico vs Portugal on Saturday, March 28, at 8:00 pm ET, at the renovated Estadio Azteca, now called Estadio Ciudad de Mexico. This match will mark the official reopening of the iconic venue, a World Cup venue that will once again open its doors after months of work.
The presence of Cristiano Ronaldo adds a special ingredient to the duel, as the Portuguese star will join a long list of figures who have graced the Azteca, a stadium where Pele shone in 1970 and Diego Armando Maradona in 1986.
The FMF said that “the duel against Portugal will serve as the ideal prelude, igniting the World Cup atmosphere with a renovated stadium, an excited national team and a top-class opponent”.

Mexico vs Belgium: second friendly in the United States
Three days later, El Tri will travel to the United States to face Belgium on March 31, at 8:00 pm, at Soldier Field in Chicago, home of the NFL’s Chicago Bears.
Belgium, also already qualified for the 2026 World Cup, will arrive with figures such as Kevin De Bruyne, Leandro Trossard and Jeremy Doku, which makes this duel another demanding test for the Mexican team.
Both Aguirre and Belgian coach Rudi Garcia are expected to use formations very close to those they will field at the World Cup, so it could be a preview of the real level of both teams.
