Cristiano Ronaldo is on the verge of doing something no other soccer player has done in history: play in six World Cups.
The iconic striker and superb athlete has apparead in five editions so far: Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014 Russia 2018, and Qatar 2022. CR7 is looking to play one more time for Portugal in the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
However, the iconic striker has not been able to take Portugal to the promised land, as he and the rest of his teammates have not even make it to the championship game, something that Lionel Messi – the other player who could also achieve playing in six World Cups if the makes it to the 2026 tournament – has achieved, with a World Cup trophy for Argentina under his belt.
Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. disses Lamine Yamal
During a recent Twitch stream with creator 2xRaKai, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. was asked who his favorite footballer of all time is. Without hesitation, the flashy foward answered, “My dad.” That alone sparked an intense debate about where does CR7 stands against younger stars.
When the streamer pushed back, suggesting FC Barcelona sensation and Spain’s National Team member Lamine Yamal might be better than his legendary father, Ronaldo Jr. made it clear he wasn’t convinced about that statement, adding that Yamal “hasn’t won anything” yet.
Here’s the twist, Lamine Yamal actually won the UEFA Euro 2024 with Spain. So, while Ronaldo Jr. was trying to defend his dad, he may have accidentally overlooked one of the teen’s biggest accomplishments. Cristiano’s oldest son might still see his father as the GOAT, but facts are facts – Yamal already has silverware to his name.
CR7 is on a league of its own
Cristiano Ronaldo has accomplished a lot of things during his illustrious career, but one in particular shines the brightest at the international level: on November 24th, 2022, he became the first and only man to score at five separate editions of the game’s greatest tournament, opening the scoring for Portugal in a thrilling 3-2 win over Ghana.
If he makes to the 2026 World Cup, and even more, scores during the tournament, then Ronaldo will have a record that would be very hard to break. It’s a statement of the longevity that has characterized Cristiano’s career, and how much of a dominant player he’s been during a long stretch of time.
