Cristiano Ronaldo challenges Lionel Messi with a resounding message after reaching 950 goals

Cristiano Ronaldo continues to grow his legend and is now celebrating his 950th goal as a professional. The Portuguese scored the second goal in Al Nassr’s 2-0 victory over Al Hazm and celebrated it on social media with a message that some interpreted as a dig at Lionel Messi.

The 40-year-old striker scored his sixth goal in six matches of the 2025-26 season, maintaining his team’s perfect start to the Saudi Pro League season, where they lead the table with 18 points, three more than Al-Taawoun and eight ahead of defending champions Al-Ittihad.

Cristiano Ronaldo: “Always hungry for more!”

After the match, Ronaldo shared his joy on social media with a message that reflects his unwavering ambition:

“Happy to help the team win and reach 950 goals! Always hungry for more!” he wrote on Instagram, making it clear that his hunger for glory remains intact.

With this new achievement, the former Real Madrid and Manchester United player sends a warning to his rivals: he is still determined to continue scoring goals and winning titles, both with his club and with the national team.

Cristiano’s desire to continue despite family pleas

A few weeks ago, Ronaldo was recognised with the Prestige Award at the Portugal Football Globe Awards, where he revealed that his family has asked him to retire. However, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was blunt:

“My family says I have already done everything, that it is time to stop. But I don’t think so. I keep producing good things and helping my club and Portugal. Why not keep going?” he said.

My family tells me to retire, but I want to keep helping my club and Portugal

Ronaldo said that although he knows his retirement is near, his current focus is on enjoying the present: “I don’t think long term anymore. Training after training, match after match, I want to enjoy every day.”

Intense schedule with Al Nassr and a look at the 2026 World Cup

The all-time leading goalscorer will look to move even closer to the record when Al-Nassr take on Karim Benzema’s Al-Ittihad in the last 16 of the King’s Cup. The Saudi club will then face Al-Fayha and India’s Goa in the AFC Cup, before visiting Neom on 8 November.

After the demanding schedule, Ronaldo will join the Portugal national team, who will be looking to secure their qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Roberto Martinez’s side will face Ireland and Armenia, with CR7 determined to keep his legend alive… and his pursuit of the thousandth goal.
