Cowboys star George Pickens fires jab at the Steelers after Minkah Fitzpatrick blockbuster trade

George Pickens, now with the Dallas Cowboys, couldn’t help but take a playful shot at the Pittsburgh Steelers following the blockbuster trade that sent star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Miami Dolphins.

The move, which brought Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith to Pittsburgh, has created ripples across the league – and Pickens made sure his was heard.

After the trade was announced, Pickens shared an Instagram story addressed directly to Fitzpatrick: “Super happy for you broski!!!!! Back to beautiful places in life lol.”

The message drew attention – not just for the congratulatory tone, but for the implied jab suggesting that Pittsburgh isn’t among those “beautiful places” anymore

Backhanded compliment or genuine support?

The message could be interpreted in different ways. On the surface, Pickens seems happy for Fitzpatrick’s return to Miami – a familiar and open environment.

But the wording also implies a sharp contrast between the sunshine of Miami and the tones of Pittsburgh. It’s a public dig from a former Steeler eager to leave the past behind.

Pickens’ relationship with the Steelers was complicated. Shortly after his trade, he faced criticism for prior social media outbursts targeting the team and expressing frustration with its direction.

While he later claimed an AI bot was to blame for some of the social media content, it’s clear that emotions and baggage linger .

Meanwhile, the Steelers are undergoing a significant transformation. Trading away Minkah Fitzpatrick, a five-time Pro Bowler and cornerstone of their defense, marks a turning point.

In exchange, they received elite talent in Jalen Ramsey, a three-time All-Pro cornerback, and versatile tight end Jonnu Smith . The deal raised eyebrows – and fueled questions about whether Pittsburgh is rebuilding or resetting for an immediate title run.

Pickens wants the final word

Although his comments were brief, Pickens’ message landed with weight. It reinforced the idea that he’s glad to escape Pittsburgh’s uncertainty and embrace a fresh start in Dallas.

The Cowboys picked him up this offseason, seeing high-upside talent despite concerns about his maturity and locker-room presence.

Pickens now finds himself in a strong position – paired with CeeDee Lamb and supported by the Cowboys’ experienced coaching staff. With one year remaining on his rookie deal, he’ll be aiming for a breakout season. His parting words to Fitzpatrick serve as both support and a reminder of his turbulent tenure in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers are facing growing uncertainty. Are they laying groundwork for the future, or betting on their veterans one last time? Acquiring Ramsey and Smith while trading away assets like Pickens and Fitzpatrick points to a hybrid strategy. But this comes amid mixed success and lingering doubt around the direction of the franchise.

For Pickens, his dig at Pittsburgh signals clarity. He’s committed to Dallas and ready to redefine himself – not just as a player, but as a statement.

As he moves forward with the Cowboys, Pickens is shedding his Steelers past and embracing a fresh start. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh reckons with the cost of reshaping its core.

Pickens’ playful jab sums up both his personal triumph and the divisive winds blowing through two very different NFL franchises.
