Cowboys rocked by ‘nasty and confusing’ Brian Schottenheimer rumor: Dallas insider puts Mike Florio on blast

ADallas Cowboys insider has called out Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, accusing him of deliberately spreading harmful and misleading rumors about the team’s recently appointed head coach, Brian Schottenheimer.

The accusations arrive as the franchise approaches a pivotal training camp under its fresh leadership – a moment of both excitement and scrutiny for “America’s Team.”

During a recent segment, Florio floated a rumor suggesting Schottenheimer might be struggling to secure full buy-in from the locker room. He implied that some Cowboys players were hesitant about the transition from Mike McCarthy’s previous regime.

The rumor quickly attracted attention, but a trusted source within the organization dismissed it as “nasty and confusing,” emphasizing that it contradicted everything heard behind the scenes.

“This feels like a national media outlet is just starting a nasty rumor,” the Dallas source told Athlon Sports, stressing that the supposed locker room concerns are completely unfounded.

The insider also noted the strong relationships Schottenheimer had already built during his time as offensive coordinator – particularly with quarterback Dak Prescott – making the unsubstantiated speculation even more questionable.

The Schottenheimer factor

Brian Schottenheimer has been immersed in the Cowboys organization for over three years. Beginning as a consultant in 2022, he advanced to offensive coordinator in early 2023, eventually earning promotion to head coach just last month.

His tenure has seen tangible development: the offense surged to first league-wide in scoring that season, despite a regression following Prescott’s injury. Notably, his vast coaching résumé spans stints with the Rams, Seahawks, Jets, and collegiate programs – signaling a seasoned leader well-versed in offensive strategy.

Many commentators, including former stars such as Michael Irvin and Dez Bryant, expressed concerns about promoting from within. However, others believed continuity and familiarity – especially Prescott’s support-would be beneficial.

Under Schottenheimer’s guidance, Prescott reportedly remained fully committed, both to the coach and the Cowboys’ long-term vision.

Media responsibility and NFL narrative

This clash highlights the tension between national punditry and insider reporting. Opinions and rumors in sports can have a substantial impact, shaping public perception, player morale, and contract negotiations.

Cowboys insiders argue that reputable reporting should be grounded in verifiable facts – not swirling speculation. In response, some sports media watchers have challenged Florio to provide evidence of these internal disagreements.

Until then, Dallas insiders say the report remains unsubstantiated and potentially damaging, especially with camp only weeks away.

Mike Florio’s recent rumor about Brian Schottenheimer’s locker room rapport has sparked backlash from Cowboys insiders, who argue it’s misleading and lacks factual basis.

As Schottenheimer prepares to lead a team he already knows well, the Cowboys are rallying around him – refusing to entertain rumors that threaten their efforts to start the season on solid ground.
