Cowboys recommended to sign Mike Hilton: “He would be excellent”

The Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders have been pinpointed as the ideal destinations for veteran cornerback Mike Hilton in NFL free agency. Bleacher Report analyst Kristopher Knox highlighted both teams as the best options for Hilton, who, surprisingly, remains unsigned after four successful seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.

“Hilton would be an excellent target for the Dallas Cowboys, who enter camp with injury concerns at the cornerback position,” wrote Knox. “The Las Vegas Raiders could also find a place for Hilton after losing slot corner Nate Hobbs in free agency,” the expert analyst added, placing both teams as real options for the player.

At 31 years old, Hilton has established himself as one of the most effective players in the league, where last season he had a career-high 38 defensive stops, earning a Pro Football Focus run defense grade of 91.7.

A necessary signing for both teams

For the Dallas Cowboys, the addition of Hilton would be a logical move. The team faces uncertainty at the cornerback position due to injuries to Trevon Diggs and rookie Shavon Revel Jr. A savvy veteran like Hilton could step into the starting nickelback role, bringing stability and leadership to the team.

On the other hand, the Las Vegas Raiders also have a clear need. Following the departure of their starting nickelback, Nate Hobbs, to the Green Bay Packers in free agency, the Raiders have not found a viable replacement. Bringing in Hilton would be a strategic move by general manager John Spytek to fill that crucial gap.

The big surprise in the market

It is incomprehensible that a player of Mike Hilton‘s calibre, with his proven track record and such a high level of performance in a specialised position such as slot corner, is still on the open market. With NFL training camps kicking off this week, it is even more surprising that a talent of his level, capable of immediately improving any secondary, has not found a new home

His availability offers a golden opportunity for teams with clear needs at the defensive back position, making his current situation one of the biggest question marks at this stage of free agency.
