The Dallas Cowboys will be without one of their big names on defence for at least four games after the team placed defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence on injured reserve with a foot injury.
Lawrence’s place on the roster has been filled by defensive end K.J. Henry, who was signed off Cincinnati’s practice squad.
The move comes after Lawrence and leading pass rusher Michael Parsons suffered injuries during last week’s 20-15 win over the New York Giants.
While Lawrence has been placed on injured reserve, the Cowboys haven’t done so with Parsons, though he is expected to miss Sunday’s game at Pittsburgh with a sprained ankle.
Other names will have to step up
It’s the second time Lawrence has suffered a significant injury over the past eight seasons. Although he struggled with injuries early in his career, the 32-year-old was on a run of 44 consecutive starts, which will now end with the game against the Steelers.
So far this season Lawrence had registered 14 tackles and three sacks to go along with one forced fumble.
With Lawrence out, the Cowboys will now have to turn to rookie second-round draft pick Marshawn Kneeland and veterans Carl Lawson and Chauncey Golston to pick up the slack.
Tyrus Wheat is also on the roster, though he hasn’t been active for the last two games.
As for Henry, he was drafted in the fifth round by Washington in 2023. He was later waived at the end of the preseason after playing 10 games for the team last season. He then played in two games for the Bengals.
