Cowboys’ offense will change after Brian Schottenheimer’s latest decision

The Brian Schottenheimer era as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys officially got underway on Monday, and once in his post, the former blue-and-white offensive coordinator began to make a series of adjustments to his coaching staff, where he already has the man in charge of organizing the offense.

One of Schottenheimer’s characteristics as an offensive coordinator was to look for explosive variants that would pay off in advancing down the field, something he demonstrated in the 2023 season, when the Arlington team reached the divisional round.

To regain that explosiveness on offense, Brian Schottenheimer asked Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys to secure the services of Klayton Adams as offensive coordinator, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Adams previously coached the Arizona Cardinals’ offensive line.

Klayton Adams’ possible contribution as offensive coordinator

Adams is known as one of the offensive coordinators who favors players who help their teammates knock out defenders who could collapse the quarterback’s pocket

Adams’ offensive line specializes in counterattacks, which requires offensive linemen and tight ends to pull blockers.

That means disorientation and violence as the blockers gain speed before reaching their assignments.

For this task, Adams will rely on the likes of Tyler Smith, Brock Hoffman, Cooper Beebe and Terence Steele, who can protect both Dak Prescott and whoever takes up the running back mantle.

While with the Cardinals, Arizona ranked second in counter-attack attempts. In 2024, the Cardinals finished last in offensive holding penalties, although they had the third fewest false starts.
