Cowboys may have pretext to look for new QB as Dak Prescott struggles emotionally

Dak Prescott is reportedly heartbroken after his wedding to Sarah Jane Ramos was suddenly called off just weeks before the planned date. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback, 32, and Ramos, also 32, had been preparing for a lavish ceremony in Lake Como, Italy, on April 10, 2026. However, the couple canceled the event in March after Ramos reportedly discovered that Prescott had been messaging other women using anonymous social media accounts. The news has left both parties devastated, according to sources close to them.

The couple shares two young daughters – Margaret (MJ), 2, and Aurora Rayne, 10 months. They had just returned from a joint bachelor and bachelorette trip in the Bahamas when the issues surfaced. Since the cancellation, neither Prescott nor Ramos has spoken publicly about the split. A source close to the pair told reporters that everything still feels “surreal” for both. “They’re both still processing the emotions of what was supposed to be their wedding just days away,” the insider said.

Friends and family are concerned about Prescott’s emotional state. Reports suggest he is struggling to come to terms with the sudden end of the relationship. The quarterback has remained mostly silent on social media, focusing on his recovery from a previous injury and preparing for the upcoming NFL season. However, those close to him say the breakup has hit him hard, especially given how quickly the wedding plans unraveled.

This personal turmoil comes at a critical time for the Dallas Cowboys. With Prescott entering the 2026 season on a massive $240 million contract extension that keeps him in Dallas through 2028, the organization may now have a convenient pretext to begin exploring other quarterback options. Sources within the league suggest that Prescott’s emotional distress could lead to mental lapses, poor decision-making under pressure, and reduced focus on the field-factors that have historically impacted players going through major personal crises.

Cowboys quietly eyeing QB options?

Legal proceedings have already begun. According to TMZ, Prescott filed a request in Texas on March 17 for joint managing conservatorship of their two daughters. His attorney confirmed that both sides are trying to avoid court for now and are tough working toward a healthy co-parenting relationship. Still, friends worry that delaying conversations could make things harder in the long run.

For the Cowboys, the timing is delicate. The franchise has invested heavily in Prescott as the face of the team, but if his off-field struggles begin to affect his performance, the front office could start quietly looking at draft prospects or veteran alternatives. NFL history is full of quarterbacks whose personal issues led to on-field mistakes, turnovers, and lost games. Dallas, a team that has not won a Super Bowl since 1995, cannot afford another season of inconsistency at the most important position.

As the original wedding date approaches, emotions are expected to remain raw. Whether Prescott can compartmentalize the heartbreak and deliver on the field remains to be seen. For now, the Cowboys have a new narrative to manage-one that could eventually give them justification to move on from their longtime starter.
