Cowboys’ Jedi warrior Solomon Thomas ready to battle the NFL Empire – On Star Wars Day

Before he even suits up in silver and blue, Dallas Cowboys’ new defensive end Solomon Thomas is already embracing the role of hero – Jedi hero, to be precise.

On May the Fourth, aka Star Wars Day, Thomas made it crystal clear where he stands in the galactic battle between light and dark. In a photo shared by the Cowboys’ official X account, Thomas appeared fully suited up as a Jedi – brown robe, lightsaber in hand, and all the swagger of someone ready to face the Empire head-on.

“[Solomon Thomas] understood the assignment,” the post read, earning nods from both NFL fans and Star Wars loyalists.

Thomas, a longtime fan of the iconic franchise, has never been shy about his fandom. In fact, during last weekend’s NFL Draft – which coincided with the 20th anniversary of Revenge of the Sith – he posted a video walking the streets dressed in his Jedi robe. Clearly, the Force is strong with this one.

And he’s not alone. New York Giants’ first-round pick Jaxson Dart, the former Ole Miss quarterback, also used his draft moment to pay tribute to the galaxy far, far away.

Dart told ESPN that he wears eye black during games as a tribute to Anakin Skywalker’s dramatic look in Revenge of the Sith. His favorite films? That one, and The Empire Strikes Back – classic dark side tension.

But what’s with all the excitement over May 4?

Thomas and the Cowboys are hungry for revenge

Every year, May the Fourth is celebrated globally by Star Wars fans thanks to the pun “May the Fourth be with you,” a playful twist on the saga’s iconic line, “May the Force be with you.” It’s a day for dressing up as Jedi or Sith, rewatching the films, and embracing the universe George Lucas created – a culture that clearly extends into NFL locker rooms.

Back in Dallas, Thomas is preparing to reunite with defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton and join a squad hungry to rebound from a disappointing 2024 season. But for now, he’s channeling his inner Obi-Wan – ready to strike back and lead the Cowboys’ resistance against the league’s toughest offenses.

In the words of every Jedi ever: This is the way.
