The vibes were not great heading into the 2025 NFL season for the Dallas Cowboys. A contract dispute between franchise cornerstone Micah Parsons and owner Jerry Jones lingered over the team like a dark cloud. Ultimately, Parsons was traded away, wiping away any high hopes fans had of the Cowboys’ upcoming season.
Through seven games, the team has been inconsistent, albeit an offensive juggernaut. Dak Prescott is having one of the best seasons of his career, thanks to head coach Brian Schottenheimer and a cast of talented pass-catchers, featuring CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and Jake Ferguson. Cowboys fans are accustomed to seeing Lamb and Ferguson play well, but Pickens has really asserted himself within the offense, especially in the games Lamb missed due to injury.
Will Jerry Jones keep waiting to negotiate a new contract with George Pickens?
Pickens has played so well that it has Cowboys fans begging Jones to sign him to an extension as soon as possible. The former Pittsburgh Steelers wideout will be an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason, and will surely demand a big contract after a breakout season in Dallas. The price might keep going way up, too.
Former NFL Pro Bowl wide receiver Allen Robinson joined Kevin Clark’s “This is Football” show on ESPN this week, and he couldn’t help but praise Pickens for his season up to this point. While explaining what makes Pickens so good, Robinson pinpointed one trait that Pickens has that almost no other wideout does as well.
Jones has already said there’s no rush to negotiate a contract extension with Pickens. But if the receiver continues putting up gaudy numbers, his price could skyrocket by the time free agency rolls around. It would behoove the Cowboys owner to finally act quickly on a contract negotiation for once.
