Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys have, perhaps indirectly, placed a lot of pressure on themselves to nail their picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. The front office opted for a “selectively aggressive” approach in free agency, which saw them plug in some holes on defense and almost completely disregard the offensive side of the ball. Those moves have painted a picture of what will happen when the Cowboys are picking in the first round in two weeks’ time.
At the beginning of the draft process, Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty was considered a lock to be the Cowboys’ pick. But it’s looking increasingly likely that he will go well before Dallas is on the clock. With the draft two weeks away, there’s a new consensus favorite for the Cowboys at No. 12: Texas Longhorns wide receiver Matthew Golden. At least, that’s what most draft experts believe is going to happen.
Matthew Golden visits Dallas Cowboys on Thursday
On Thursday, Cowboys fans got some evidence that what the draft analysts are saying might be true. Golden posted a picture on his Instagram stories of a CeeDee Lamb picture hanging on the wall of the Ford Center at The Star, the team’s practice facility. Dallas used a Top 30 visit on Golden.
It’s an interesting nod from Golden to post a picture of Lamb, who he would theoretically be lining up on the other side of in the Cowboys’ offensive scheme. Golden ran a 4.29 forty yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine, and Dallas needs explosiveness on offense.
Golden isn’t a foolproof prospect, though. He wasn’t overly productive at Houston or Texas while in college, with most of his production coming during a four-game stretch in 2024.
Still, his speed is extremely enticing for a team who let Brandin Cooks walk in free agency and would be relying on unproven players like Jalen Tolbert and Jonathan Mingo to complement Lamb. Golden was also born and raised in Texas, so he would feel right at home in Dallas.
