Cowboys eye possible trade for Patriots receiver Kayshon Boutte

The Dallas Cowboys might not be done dealing with the New England Patriots. After already striking a trade earlier this offseason, new reports suggest the two franchises could reconnect, this time over a wide receiver. According to NFL analyst Brian Hines, Kayshon Boutte has emerged as a trade candidate, and Dallas could be a natural landing spot.

Boutte, drafted in the sixth round by New England in 2023, made the most of limited opportunities last season. He finished with 43 receptions, 589 yards, and three touchdowns-respectable numbers for a young receiver in a crowded offense. But with the Patriots undergoing major changes, his role is far from secure heading into 2025.

New England’s depth puts Boutte on the bubble

The Patriots‘ offseason moves have placed significant pressure on players like Boutte. With Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins joining the team through free agency and rookie Kyle Williams arriving via the draft, the wide receiver room has become increasingly competitive. A new coaching staff only adds more uncertainty to Boutte’s future in Foxborough.

Despite his promise, the 23-year-old may not make the final roster. Hines argues that his production and age give him trade value, especially for a team like Dallas that’s still looking for depth behind star wideout CeeDee Lamb.

Is Boutte the right fit in Dallas?

The Cowboys‘ need at wide receiver is no secret. While they’ve assembled a solid group of supporting pass catchers, the offense still lacks a true No. 2 threat to balance the field. Lamb has carried the load in recent seasons, and the front office has been exploring options to ease that burden.

Boutte may not be a guaranteed solution, but his upside and affordability make him an intriguing target. His ability to play as an outside “X” receiver could mesh well with Dallas‘ current system under new offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

The question now is whether the Cowboys believe Boutte is worth the gamble. If they see potential for growth, a trade with New England might be worth pursuing. If not, they may opt to wait for a bigger move down the line.

One thing is clear: Dallas isn’t done tweaking its roster.
