Courtney Vandersloot becomes Chicago Sky’s all-time leading scorer in emotional milestone

Thursday night’s game between the Chicago Sky and Dallas Wings wasn’t just about chasing a long-awaited win-it turned into a celebration of legacy and love. Midway through the third quarter, the Sky paused to honor a franchise-defining moment: Courtney Vandersloot had officially become the team’s all-time leading scorer, overtaking none other than her wife, Allie Quigley.

The crowd at Wintrust Arena erupted as the announcement was made, cheering for the longtime face of the franchise who now holds one of its most cherished records. The Sky’s social media captured the emotion with a simple but iconic post: “SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT.”

A journey marked by loyalty and greatness

Vandersloot has been synonymous with Chicago Sky basketball since joining the team in 2011. Over the years, she became the engine of the team’s offense, renowned for her court vision and relentless playmaking. She helped lead Chicago to its first WNBA title in 2021, and although she left for the New York Liberty in 2023-winning another championship there-her roots remained in Chicago.

Now back with the Sky, Vandersloot is mentoring a new generation, including breakout rookie Angel Reese. Her return brought not only experience, but a powerful sense of continuity to a team rebuilding its identity.

A record that goes beyond numbers

With 3,724 points and counting, Vandersloot’s achievement is more than a statistical milestone. It’s a testament to longevity, consistency, and the emotional ties that make sports unforgettable. Passing her wife, Allie Quigley-a six-time All-Star and beloved Sky sharpshooter-adds another layer to a story already filled with legacy and love.

Their shared journey through professional basketball is rare and celebrated, and now they both sit atop Chicago’s all-time scoring list-partners on and off the court, writing history together.

What’s next for the Sky

Despite an 0-4 start to the season, the Sky are showing flashes of promise, and Vandersloot’s leadership will be crucial moving forward. With a mix of veteran experience and youthful energy, Chicago is building toward a comeback story-and their all-time leading scorer will be at the center of it.
