The young and sensational rookie of the Dallas Mavericks, Cooper Flagg, is set to begin his debut NBA season. Selected as the first overall pick in the Draft, Flagg arrives with high expectations after delivering standout performances at Duke University. Now, fans are eager to see if his college dominance can translate into success at the professional level.

For this reason, he is expected to take on a leading role from the very start, becoming one of the Dallas Mavericks’ most highlighted players alongside cornerstone star Anthony Davis. Nevertheless, questions remain over whether he can truly fulfill the high expectations placed on his shoulders since the beginning of his NBA career.

Although many believe that in his first season, there won’t be the usual pressure on Cooper Flagg, there has been speculation about the role of the former Duke player. Some analysts suggest that his responsibilities could grow faster than expected if the Mavericks face early challenges.

Flagg will have time to grow before leading the Mavericks

Cooper Flagg is young and has everything to learn in the NBA. Even though he showcased some marvelous performances in the Summer League, the Texas team’s player is expected to enjoy his first-ever season in the league without the usual pressure placed on a first overall draft pick.

Tim MacMahon from ESPN has assured us that the young Duke talent will be a starting player for the Mavericks, but he won’t carry the responsibility of leading the team’s offense early in the season, allowing him time to develop and adapt to the NBA’s pace.

“Flagg is projected to be an instant starter, but he won’t be expected to carry the team as a rookie surrounded by accomplished veterans,” wrote MacMahon regarding the role of Flagg within the Dallas Mavericks. most prominently former No. 1 pick and 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis, who was the headliner in the return package for Luka Doncic.” He added.

Can the Dallas Mavericks reach the Playoff instances?

Likewise, Tim MacMahon discussed the Mavericks’ real chances of returning to the Playoffs, noting that much will depend on the recovery of Kyrie Irving, one of the team’s biggest stars, who is currently rehabbing from a torn ACL.

“When will Kyrie Irving return from his torn left ACL? If it’s this season, can he return to All-Star form for a team that needs his offensive creation?” wrote MacMahon and added that, “The biggest factor in the Mavs’ playoff positioning, or lack thereof, could be the impact made by another former No. 1 pick and future Hall of Famer.”

There is significant uncertainty surrounding the near future of the Dallas Mavericks as the franchise assembles a roster that, despite featuring top-tier talent, faces questions about player chemistry and the health of key stars. Nevertheless, one thing is certain: Cooper Flagg will play a pivotal role in driving the team’s offensive production.
