Ahead of Opening Day 2025, the Los Angeles Dodgers unveiled a new mural at their stadium, which included four players from their roster.
However, the painting that commemorates last year’s World Series championship has caused some discomfort among some fans of the team.
The mural shows Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and Clayton Kershaw, with the latter being the subject of discussion on social media, as many believe that he should not be there.
Some believe that this place should have been occupied by Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Teoscar Hernandez or Tommy Edman, who shone in the recent World Series, says Outkick.
The Dodgers Nation account on X uploaded an image of the mural and there you can see the comments of discontent for the inclusion of Kershaw.
“I’m sorry, but why is Kershaw on this mural? He’s the GOAT! He didn’t do anything to contribute to the World Series or the season! Teoscar and others deserve to be there!” wrote one social media user.
“I understand why Kershaw is there, but even he would agree that it should be someone else,” commented another person.
“I love Kershaw I love him. But that picture shouldn’t have him in the spotlight. That’s over. He’s the best. Don’t get me wrong. But last year wasn’t his year. You could argue that he wasn’t even in that picture honestly,” one fan said.
“Well, 3/4 ain’t bad,” added one fan to indicate that they agreed with three of the four players chosen for the mural.
Even other fans of the Los Angeles team said some names of players who should have appeared in the painting instead of Kershaw.
“Kershaw shouldn’t be the focus. I love him, but it should be Yamamoto or Edman,” read one comment.
“I need Kike and Edman now! I love Kershaw, but come on, man,” wrote another.
“I get that having Kershaw is fine, but at least have Teo or Edman,” added another fan.
Outkick indicates that not making a single pitch last postseason to help the Dodgers win the Fall Classic is one of the reasons why the team’s fans will question his appearance on the mural.
He also recalled that the three-time Cy Young winner was out of last postseason due to a foot injury.
And although the 37-year-old remains a beloved figure in the franchise, Dodgers fans made it clear that other members of the team were more deserving of the championship won last October.
