Vasco da Gama-AC drew 1-1 against Velo Clube, but was eliminated in the penalty shootout in the Taca de Brasil, in a match marked by the reappearance of Bruno Fernandes, a goalkeeper on parole who is serving a sentence for the murder of his son’s mother.
Most of the crowd at the Arena da Floresta in Rio Branco showed their support for the 41-year-old goalkeeper, mainly with cheers after each save.
Despite the negative reactions before the match, Vasco da Gama-AC even lost a sponsor after confirming the signing of the killer goalkeeper, there were no incidents in Bruno’s reappearance in the Brazil Cup 17 years later.

Vasco (AC) players posed for the official photo wearing the shirts of Lekinho, Serpa and Brian, accused of raping two women at the club’s headquarters.
The three had provisional arrest warrants issued against them.
Bruno Fernandes: scare, saves and protagonist in the penalty shootout
Bruno was the main scare of the match as he required medical attention for a few minutes. According to the medical team, the goalkeeper had experienced a drop in blood pressure.
The veteran goalkeeper had a solid game and could not prevent his team’s elimination in the penalty shootout (3-2)
Bruno Fernandes saved penalties from Lucas Mingoti and Rodrigo Oliveira, and also converted the fifth penalty for Velo Clube.
The killer goalkeeper had not played in the Copa do Brasil since 2009, when he was still a Flamengo player and had not yet been sentenced to more than 22 years in prison for the aggravated murder of model Eliza Samudio.
