Conor McGregor challenges Floyd Mayweather to MMA rematch: Will it happen at the White House?

Nearly nine years after their historic clash, former UFC fighter Conor McGregor and former boxer Floyd Mayweather have reactivated the possibilities of a rematch.

The Irishman has reignited one of the most storied rivalries in sports history with a proposition that is as exciting as it is symbolic. McGregor took to social media to call out Mayweather for a long-promised rematch, but changing the ring for an octagon. His proposed venue? The lawn of the White House.

“When you are ready for that promised MMA bout, I am here”

McGregor posted a throwback video of their 2017 press tour, accompanied by a direct challenge to the undefeated boxing legend.

Fun times @danawhite, @ufc! @Floyd Mayweather, when you are ready for that promised MMA bout, I am here

The Dubliner did not stop there with the challenge. He specifically suggested a setting that has been the subject of intense speculation in recent months:

The White House is nice in the summer, I heard

The UFC and the White House have reportedly collaborated on a landmark event scheduled for June 14, 2026, coinciding with President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday and a larger celebration for America’s 250th anniversary on July 4, 2026.

The two options: Michael Chandler… or a double header?

While McGregor has been heavily linked to a long-awaited clash with Michael Chandler, his latest comments suggest he is looking for something even more “notorious” than the fight he would have against the “Iron”.

In his recent call-out to Mayweather, McGregor jokingly suggested he could handle both men in a single night.

Just kidding, Mike! Although I could fight both the same night. Floyd MMA? EASY. 10 seconds

The promise of an MMA rematch dates back to the original negotiations of their 2017 boxing match, where McGregor claims Mayweather agreed in the moment to eventually step into an octagon. To this date, Mayweatherhas never competed in professional mixed martial arts.

The tough road to the White House

The prospect of a “UFC at the White House” card has moved from social media fantasy to a point where it is reportedly “signed and delivered”. In recent interviews, McGregor confirmed his participation, stating to Sean Hannity: “Done deal, signed, delivered. McGregor will compete in the White House for America’s 250th birthday.”

However, there are many things outside the fighting world that can deeply affect this potential bout:

  1. His Ban: McGregor is currently serving an 18-month ban for an anti-doping violation, which is set to expire on March 20, 2026, clearing him just in time for the summer festivities.
  2. High demands: Ever the businessman, McGregor reportedly requested $100 million and 100 U.S. “Golden Visas” for his family and associates to headline the historic event.

Now it is time to see what Floyd does. At his age, this event could be very risky for his legacy and undesputed experience. If the prize is right, the financial lure of a White House lawn brawl might be too much for even Mayweather to ignore.
