Concachampions: Why the winner of Cruz Azul vs Vancouver will not go to the 2025 Club World Cup in the United States?

The Uruguayan team is not included in the list of qualifiers for the competition as they have not been able to occupy by sporting merit any of the places awarded by FIFA to CONCACAF. There are four places, corresponding to the last four champions of the Concachampions.

Because this year the team from La Noria was unable to participate in the intercontinental tournament, it will not be able to show the good soccer moment that its squad is going through with a streak of more than ten games without losing that was cut short when they were defeated in the local league by Club America.

The four members of Concacaf who will go to the next Club World Cup are already defined: Rayados (Mexico), Leon (Mexico), Pachuca (Mexico) and Seattle Sounders (United States), corresponding to the winners of the last editions of the Concachampions. Cruz Azul will have to fight to be in the 2029 edition of this intercontinental competition, which has gained a lot of strength in recent years.

With the Trophy in Mind

Today, La Maquina Celeste of Cruz Azul will face the Vancouver Whitecaps in the final of the Concachampions, which will take place at the Estadio Universitario at 19:00 hrs (Mexico City time). This is because the Celeste team was the one that accumulated more points within the continental competition.

The FIFA Club World Cup winner will receive up to $125 million

The competition will distribute 1000 million among the 32 participating teams

The aim is to distribute USD 250 million for club football worldwide

All revenue generated will go to club football, and FIFA’s reserves will not be touched

In line with the budgetary principles for the FIFA Club World Cup, and following fruitful discussions with key stakeholders, including the European Club Association, as well as approval by the FIFA Council, FIFA has confirmed the distribution model for this new competition. Under this model, USD 1 billion will be distributed among the 32 participating clubs, in addition to considerable solidarity payments around the world.

The distribution model for the 2025 edition will consist of the following pillars:

Total prize pool: USD 1 billion, including the USD 475 million sporting performance pillar as well as the USD 525 million participation pillar.
