Commanders urged to explore blockbuster Tyreek Hill trade as Dolphins face potential reset

The Washington Commanders made major waves this offseason by addressing their offensive shortcomings, but analysts believe they may not be done yet. Following an underwhelming 7-10 finish in 2024, the team has already revamped its offensive line and wide receiver corps.

Still, one proposed trade could turn Washington from playoff hopeful to outright contender-if the Miami Dolphins are ready to deal.

Clutch Points analyst Douglas Fritz has floated the idea that Tyreek Hill could become a target for the Commanders, should the Dolphins falter early in the 2025 season.

According to Fritz, if Miami underperforms and opts to rebuild, Washington has both the financial room and the draft capital to make a serious run at the Pro Bowl receiver.

“Hill would provide exactly what the Commanders need, and what opposing defenses don’t want to see,” Fritz wrote. “Whether Hill wants to be traded might be determined by which way the wind is blowing on a given day, but the Commanders need to try if they can’t get [Trey] Hendrickson.”

A dangerous receiving trio in reach

The Commanders have already added Deebo Samuel and Laremy Tunsil this offseason, giving No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels a strong offensive foundation.

Pairing Hill with Terry McLaurin and Samuel could form one of the most explosive wide receiver trios in the league. With Noah Brown and Michael Gallup rounding out the depth chart, the team’s offensive firepower would be nearly unmatched.

Hill’s presence would immediately elevate the passing game and give Daniels a deep threat that stretches defenses. The All-Pro wideout is coming off another elite season in Miami, where he tallied 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns. His unmatched speed and veteran savvy would offer Daniels a reliable, game-breaking weapon early in his career.

Could Miami move on from Hill?

While the Dolphins have not indicated any intention of trading Hill, circumstances could change quickly. Hill is entering his age-31 season and carries a massive cap hit. If Miami stumbles out of the gate or begins considering a roster reset for 2026 and beyond, they may explore offers.

The Commanders, with plenty of salary cap space and an aggressive front office, are one of the few franchises that could absorb Hill’s $30 million annual salary. That financial flexibility, paired with their win-now approach under a new regime, makes Washington an intriguing trade partner.

The potential deal wouldn’t be without controversy. Hill has faced off-field scrutiny in the past, and his contract size would demand top-tier production. But if Washington’s goal is to win now-and maximize Daniels‘ rookie contract window-few players could provide a bigger immediate boost than Hill.

There’s also the question of competition. Other teams could jump into the mix if Hill becomes available, so Washington would need to act decisively. But with their roster already on the rise, adding Hill could be the final piece in a true playoff-caliber offense.

While speculative for now, the proposed trade represents a bold opportunity-one that could dramatically alter the NFC East hierarchy. If Hill hits the market, expect the Commanders to at least pick up the phone.
