When talking about the best of the best in sports, Lionel Messi‘s name is the first to come up on a global scale. The soccer legend continues to re-write the record books, but he has already accomplished more than anyone in the sport’s history ever could. Messi’s name is synonymous with greatness, even as he gets ready to turn 38 years old.

In the United States, Tom Brady would likely be the football equivalent to Messi. But with Brady retired, Patrick Mahomes has taken that mantle. The 29-year-old has already reached five Super Bowls and won three of them. At least in North America, he might be more widely recognizable than Messi. Messi is yet to confirm his participation in the tournament. He seemed skeptical he would make it when asked about it following his triumph in the 2022 edition, but Argentina continues to dominate on the field, and Messi continues to score goals for Inter Miami.
