UFC welterweight Colby Covington has once again found himself in the middle of a controversy-this time, by taking renewed shots at NBA superstar LeBron James.
Covington, well-known for his aggressive trash talk and unfiltered opinions, has had a history of targeting James in the past. However, his latest remarks are perhaps his most scathing yet.
During a recent appearance on the Digital Social Hour Podcast, Covington accused James of hypocrisy in his activism, particularly regarding his business ties to China.
The former interim welterweight champion labeled James a “Chinese finger puppet,” suggesting that while the four-time NBA champion speaks out on social justice issues in the U.S., he continues to benefit financially from merchandise produced overseas.
“Yeah, he is a Chinese finger puppet. He makes all his money in China, you know,” Covington stated.
“All his merchandise is done in China with all these women that are working for pennies on the dollar in these Chinese labor sweatshops. So you can’t talk about equality if you’re not really about equality. What about the women in China that you are employing for cents on the dollar?”
Covington sides with Stephen A. Smith in Bronny James debate
Adding another layer to the tension, Covington recently inserted himself into the ongoing dispute between LeBron James and ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith regarding James’ son, Bronny James.
Smith sparked controversy by questioning Bronny‘s NBA prospects, stating: “I am pleading with LeBron James as a father: Stop this, stop this. We all know that Bronny James is in the NBA because of his dad.”
LeBron James did not take kindly to those remarks. During a Lakers-Knicks game, he confronted Smith courtside, saying: “Stop f*****g with my son. That’s my f*****g son. Stop f*****g with my son.”
While Smith later downplayed the altercation, Covington seized the opportunity to take another jab at James, siding with Smith and launching yet another verbal attack.
In a video shared by Full Send MMA, Covington unleashed an even harsher statement.
“You’re a sc**bag, LeBron. You don’t care about this country that made you all that money, and I hope you f*****g get sick and f*****g and worse… I don’t wanna say any worse but you’re a terrible human being,” he said.
