Coco Gauff’s journey at the Indian Wells Masters came to an unexpected halt with a fourth-round loss to Belinda Bencic, but she had something much brighter to look forward to-her 21st birthday on March 13.
While the rising tennis star didn’t expect to feel any different after hitting the milestone, she admitted that it was something different.
“I think it’s an exciting age to turn,” Gauff declared.
For Gauff, who constantly strives to improve her game, this birthday marked a moment of both celebration and self-reflection.
A special day filled with love and nostalgia
Gauff, known for her tenacity on the court, took a well-earned break from competition to embrace the outpouring of love from friends, family, and fans. Among the many birthday wishes, one particularly stood out-her rumored boyfriend, Jalen Sera, who posted a heartfelt message.
“Happy birthdayyyy @cocogauff Big 21! I hope it’s your best one yet,” Sera posted.
The tennis star responded in kind, sharing a collection of photos on Instagram, including childhood pictures, as she reflected on her journey.
“Thank you, everyone, for all of the sweet messages. I am so blessed and grateful to see another year! Cheers to 21,” she wrote.
Her mother, Candi Gauff, also marked the occasion with a touching tribute, posting a collage of baby photos and recalling the transformative moment of Coco’s birth.
“You made me a mom!! One of the biggest blessings and honors a woman can have,” she wrote.
“From the time you were born, I knew you were destined for greatness! Gifted, talented, and beautiful! A great big sister, a wonderful daughter, and a global change-maker. I love you! Happy birthday!”
The post led Coco to a lighthearted realization-she didn’t seem to have many baby pictures where she was smiling.
