At 2-8, the Cleveland Browns can basically turn the page on the 2025 season. While the team was never expected to compete for a Super Bowl this year, the season has been borderline disastrous due to how general manager Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski handled the quarterback position.
The trading of veterans Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco, as well as Deshaun Watson‘s never-ending rehab process, has led to rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders being the last men standing. Heading into Week 12, Gabriel is now out with a concussion, paving the way for Sanders’ first NFL start. Browns fans at least have that to look forward to, and they’ll have a good chance of winning since they play the Las Vegas Raiders. While all eyes will be on Sanders, the Browns defense will be featuring a newly signed key piece.
Alex Wright signs contract extension with Cleveland Browns
Alex Wright, a fourth-year defensive end, signed a fresh contract extension on Thursday. The Browns front office locked Wright up on a three-year, $33 million deal.
Wright has been a standout for a defense that has done extremely well trying to keep Cleveland competitive in games where the offense has completely faltered. Adept at both run-stopping and pass-rushing, Wright has proven to be an essential partner for Myles Garrett and Mason Graham.
There’s room for him to grow, too. Wright has played under 50% of defensive snaps this season, as he worked his way back from a torn triceps in 2024. While no one knows if Sanders or Gabriel is the future at quarterback, the Browns at least know they have their future at defensive end secured.
