Chris Russo throws dart at Aaron Boone: His continuity in charge of the Yankees is in doubt

After a promising start, the Yankees have begun to plummet to third place in the American League East, three games behind the Red Sox and seven behind the Blue Jays, so the outlook is bleak.

Criticism has not been long in coming, and the pressure on his continuity as the team’s manager is getting stronger. With an expensive squad, high-profile figures and championship expectations, the results have simply not been up to scratch.

Aaron Boone is singled out as the main person responsible for the Yankees’ crisis

The Yankees have gone through one of their worst stretches in recent years, accumulating painful losses that have left the team out of playoff contention.

Although there have been injuries and issues beyond Boone’s control and responsibility, such as the underperformance of some stars, Boone’s management has been harshly questioned by analysts, the media, former players and fans.

Chris Russo criticizes Aaron Boone

One of the harshest comments about Boone came from sports journalist Chris “Mad Dog” Russo, who criticized the coach without filters:

Boone looked very confused in the dugout about what to do with the bases loaded and two outs

In addition to pointing to their poor position in the standings as proof of this, he said: “They’re in serious trouble. They’re behind the Red Sox. They’re behind Texas. They’re behind the damn Blue Jays. They’re behind everybody,” said ‘Mad Dog’Boone took over as manager in 2018 and, although he has led the team to the postseason on several occasions, the results in October have been disappointing. The lack of championships and questionable strategic decisions have raised doubts about his continuity.

His contract currently ties him to the club until the end of the season, but if the situation does not improve in the coming weeks, his departure could come sooner than expected.

Who could replace Aaron Boone with the Yankees?

Although the Yankees management has not made official statements about possible replacements, several names are already circulating on the radar. According to recent reports, these are some of the possible candidates:

  1. Don Mattingly: An icon of the Yankees as a player and current coach of the Toronto Blue Jays. His return would be welcomed by the fans.
  2. Joe Maddon: Former champion with the Cubs, his experience and relaxed style could be a good change in the New York dugout.
  3. Carlos Beltran: With a past as a player for the team, Beltran has the connection with the clubhouse and a modern vision of baseball.
  4. Buck Showalter: A veteran of a thousand battles and former Yankees manager in the 90s. His discipline and leadership could be just what the team needs.
