With the 2025 NFL Draft just around the corner, the Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up for one of the most important selection processes in recent years. After a rollercoaster season and aware that their dominance in the AFC is being challenged, Andy Reid’s team will be looking to add key pieces that will not only complement their current roster, but also ensure the continuity of their dynasty. The event will take place on April 24 in Green Bay, and the Missouri outfit will have eight selections available, starting with the 31st overall pick in the first round.

General managerBrett Veach has already proven to have a good eye for spotting talent, and this draft will be no exception. With a roster that has been built through smart selections in previous years, the challenge now will be to fill specific gaps in key positions such as the offensive line, defensive perimeter and receiving corps. Kansas City has shown that it does not need to choose at the top of the order to find immediate impact, and the goal is to repeat that formula.

In search of reinforcements: offensive line and defense as priority

Among the most mentioned names in the various analyses and mock drafts are offensive linemen such as Josh Simmons (Ohio State) and Donovan Jackson (also of Ohio State), both valued for their technique and physical potential. Simmons has been projected as a solid option to protect Patrick Mahomes, especially considering his ability to block in passing situations. Jackson, on the other hand, brings versatility, having played both guard and tackle, which would give the Chiefs multiple options on the offensive front.

On the defensive side, Kansas City also has attractive options. Ashton Gillotte (Louisville) stands out as a versatile pass rusher, ideal for third-down pressure, while Malaki Starks (Georgia) and Jahdae Barron (Texas) have been considered valuable additions in the secondary. Steve Spagnuolo could get the most out of these players, integrating them into complex schemes that demand intelligence and aggressiveness.

An offensive surprise? The receiver as a possible bet

While the main priorities seem to be on the defensive side and in protecting the quarterback, the Chiefs do not rule out adding dynamism to their aerial attack. Names such as Tetairoa McMillan (Arizona) and Tory Horton (Colorado State) sound like possible surprise bets if available. Both receivers offer different but complementary skills to Mahomes’ game: McMillan brings size and after-the-catch ability, while Horton is recognized for his speed and versatility to line up in different positions.

Another possibility is that the Chiefs will look for an interior defensive lineman such as Walter Nolen (Ole Miss) or Derrick Harmon (Oregon), both of whom have ideal physical profiles to complement Chris Jones at the heart of the defense. In either scenario, it seems clear that the team’s focus will be on maintaining a balance between youth, talent and experience.

With less than two weeks to go until the event, expectations are high in Kansas City. The opportunity to add young talent and mold it into a proven system could be the key to maintaining their status as an NFL powerhouse.
